Orthopedic Surgeon

Columbia Memorial Health (affiliated with Albany Med Health System) is a community-focused healthcare system in Hudson, New York, serving the Mid-Hudson Valley region, including Columbia, Greene, and surrounding rural counties. Our Bone & Joint Center provides high-quality orthopedic care to residents in this scenic, close-knit rural community, emphasizing personalized treatment, minimally invasive techniques, and comprehensive support for patients from initial diagnosis through rehabilitation.

We are seeking a board-certified/board-eligible Orthopedic Surgeon with fellowship training or demonstrated expertise in hand and upper extremity surgery to join our growing team. Position Overview

•  Job Title: Orthopedic Hand Surgeon

•  Employment Type: Full-time, employed position

•  Practice Setting: Hospital-employed, community hospital with outpatient clinic (primarily at Bone & Joint Center locations in Hudson and nearby areas)

•  Hospital: Columbia Memorial Hospital (critical access/community hospital with modern facilities, including operating rooms equipped for orthopedic procedures)

•  Call Schedule: Shared call (light to moderate, with support from general orthopedists and potential for system collaboration); designed to support work-life balance in a rural community

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and treat a full spectrum of hand, wrist, forearm, and upper extremity conditions, including:
  • Traumatic injuries (fractures, tendon/nerve lacerations, amputations, crush injuries)
  • Degenerative and overuse disorders (carpal tunnel syndrome, tendinitis, arthritis, trigger finger, Dupuytren’s contracture)
  • Repetitive motion injuries common in agricultural, construction, and manual labor populations
  • Congenital anomalies and pediatric hand conditions
  • Microvascular and reconstructive procedures as needed
  • Perform surgical interventions using minimally invasive, arthroscopic, and open techniques
  • Provide non-operative management, including injections, splinting, therapy coordination, and patient education
  • Collaborate with primary care physicians, emergency department staff, physical/occupational therapists, and other specialists to deliver coordinated care
  • Participate in call coverage for hand/upper extremity emergencies and contribute to general orthopedic trauma call as mutually agreed
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives, community outreach, and education (e.g., injury prevention for local workforce)
  • Contribute to program development to expand hand surgery services in the region

Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited orthopedic surgery residency
  • Fellowship training in hand and upper extremity surgery (preferred) or significant focused experience in hand surgery
  • Board-certified or board-eligible in Orthopedic Surgery (CAQ in Hand Surgery preferred)
  • Eligible for New York State medical license
  • Strong commitment to patient-centered care in a rural community setting
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Compensation will range between $480,000 – $650,000 based on experience.  Additional compensation will be paid through a productivity-based incentive program.
