Job Description:

Summary/Objective:  Columbia Memorial Hospital, a patient-centered rural community hospital, in Hudson, NY, is seeking a skilled and compassionate Ophthalmologist to join our medical team. This role combines both outpatient clinic care and surgical responsibilities, offering a unique opportunity to provide comprehensive eye care to a diverse and underserved population. Location: Hudson, NY Rural Community Hospital

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform comprehensive ophthalmologic exams and provide diagnosis and management of eye diseases and visual disorders.
  • Conduct surgical procedures, including (but not limited to) cataract extraction, eyelid surgeries, laser treatments, and other anterior segment surgeries.
  • Manage pre-operative and post-operative care for surgical patients.
  • Provide routine and urgent care for conditions such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and trauma-related ocular injuries.
  • Collaborate with optometrists, primary care providers, and other specialists to coordinate comprehensive care.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools including OCT, fundus photography, visual fields, and slit lamp biomicroscopy.
  • Educate patients and families on eye care, disease prevention, and treatment options.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and community health outreach programs.
  • May supervise or work alongside ophthalmic technicians, nurses, and medical staff.

Qualifications:

  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
  • Completion of an accredited Ophthalmology Residency Program.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Ophthalmology.
  • Valid and unrestricted medical license (or eligibility) in the state of NY.
  • Eligible for or possess current DEA certification and hospital privileges.

Preferred Experience:

  • Proficiency in cataract surgery (phacoemulsification) and common anterior segment procedures.
  • Ability to manage a full-spectrum ophthalmology caseload independently.
  • Experience in or willingness to work in a rural or medically underserved setting.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, team-based approach.
  • Interest in mentoring or training staff or students

Compensation will range between $246,000 – $650,000 based on experience.  Additional compensation will be paid through a productivity-based incentive program.
